It’s late winter. But spring is closer than you might think and craft brewers are addressing this transition season with a variety of intriguing offerings…
Tea Time (Portland, ME) – Allagash Brewing has an interesting new limited release that’s reminiscent of tea and lemonade blends, only brewed and mood-enhancing. Allagash Sun Drift is a 6.7% ABV hybrid that was brewed with lemon zest for a slightly tart profile, fermented with Brettanomyces and then blended with hot-steeped black tea from Brunswick, Maine’s Little Red Cup.
2 Valentine’s Day Variations (Charlotte, NC) – On February 14th, Valentine’s Day, Birdsong Brewing will be debuting two Imperial Stout variations and they both got our attention…
Birdsong Prehistoric Dog is a 10.5 % ABV intense and complex Imperial Stout that was aged in Booker’s Bourbon Barrels.
Birdsong Turtles on Pterodactyls is a 10.5% ABV Imperial Stout variation that was aged in Four Roses Bourbon Barrels with cacao nibs and cinnamon added.
A Labor Of Love (Ft Collins, CO) – New Belgium has released its latest small batch version of its award-winning sour brown La Folie that was inspired by a love of dessert wines. New Belgium La Folie Grand Reserve: PX is an 8% ABV Sour Brown Ale that was aged for nine months in 20 specially curated PX Sherry barrels. The PX on the label references Pedro Ximénez Sherry which is known for its fig, molasses, roasted nut and exotic spices notes.
Ways To Get Hi (Asheville, NC) – Hi-Wire Brewing has shipped a spring seasonal that adventurously pairs a German-Style Lager and an American IPA. Brewed with the brewery’s special house lager yeast and dry-hopped “out of its mind” with Huell Melon and Mandarina Bavaria, Hi-Wire Spring Lager is a 5.5% ABV refresher with big hop flavors and a smooth, balanced finish.
