Yikes, September already …And brewers are addressing the changing season with a variety of intriguing new beer offerings that should pair brilliantly with cooling weather.
Boardwalk Inspired (Cape May, NJ) – Cape May Brewing has an interesting new collaboration that they did with Great Notion Brewing which shakes things up. Loaded with lactose, maltodextrin (!), salt, plus Azacca and Motueka hops, Cape May/Great Notion Strawberry Taffy is a salt water taffy-inspired 7% ABV Milkshake IPA that pairs elegantly with beachside bumper cars and Ferris wheels.
Gourdian Hot (St Louis, MO) – With Labor Day now in the rearview mirror, we feel more comfortable covering worthy fall seasonals like this award-winner from Schlafly Beer that they’ve been brewing for more than a decade. Pumped with flavorful notes of caramel and bakery spices, Schlafly Pumpkin Ale is a MASSIVE 8% ABV gourdian ale that’s an exercise in balance from start to finish.
Blue-Berried (Hood River, OR) – pFriem Family Brewers has an exciting new late-summer release that’s a more fruit-forward take on the Belgian Lambic tradition. pFriem Bosbessen is a 6% ABV barrel-aged Lambic-Style Ale which was tempered with fresh blueberries for a bright jammy flavor that finishes tart and tangy.
Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout Makes Its Final Return (Grand Rapids, MI) – Founders Brewing, who have been making big news of late, are returning something infamous, for what they are claiming will be its last time. The fifth and final release in the brewery’s 2019 Barrel-Aged Series, which was preceded by Más Agave, KBS, Backwoods Bastard and Underground Mountain Brown, Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout (CBS) is an 11.3% ABV Imperial Stout which is aged in bourbon barrels that had previously housed maple syrup.
Not Creepy (Vista, CA) – Iron Fist Brewing has a new Small Batch Experiment release that’s BIG yet highly drinkable. Iron Fist Black DIPA is an 8.5% ABV Double IPA that pours pitch black with a thick white head and isn’t creepy.
