October is ON and American craft brewers are addressing things with exciting new beers you’re gonna want have around.
Shared Bragging Rights (Croydon, PA) – Neshaminy Creek Brewing has a new collaboration beer that they did with Dock Street Brewery, Philadelphia’s first microbrewery, that was born out of friendship and shared bragging rights of being awarded Great American Beer Festival medals! Neshaminy Creek has won multiple medals for Croydon Is Burning Smoked Lager, while Dock Street has taken medals for Man Full of Trouble Porter. And their new collaboration is SMOKING!
Brewed to rattle the bones of local beer lovers and fermented with the Darkness yeast strain, Neshaminy Creek Bone Roaster is a 5.7% ABV Smoked Porter with a rich malt character, deep smoky notes, and a bone-dry finish. Bone Roaster will be available at all three Neshaminy Creek taprooms in Croydon, Dublin, New Hope, and Dock Street South on Washington Avenue in Philadelphia, with limited distribution throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland to follow.
Catting Around (Burlington, VT) – Switchback Brewing has a new DIPA Cats Series release that we’re looking forward to. Brewed with Calypso hops and no added sugar, Switchback Calypso Cat is a MASSIVE 9.1% ABV Double IPA with bright piney aromas and candied lemon peel notes.
“I would try other DIPAs and get smacked in the face with overwhelming alcohol flavor from brewers adding sugar to boost ABV,” said Switchback Brewer, Morgan Capron, who spearheads the development of the ever-growing lineup. “Through the brewing skill and expertise that Switchback has become known for, we are able to achieve the high alcohol content strictly from malt.”
Bitter Ways (Brooklyn, NY) – Threes Brewing just released a new collaboration they did with Good Word Brewing in Duluth, Georgia, that’s worth chasing down. The sixth in their ever-growing lineup of English-inspired beers, and the first foudre-fermented ale, Threes/Good Word Hold Your Applause is an oak-aged 4.8% ABV Extra Special Bitter (ESB) with satisfying malt flavor, a drying accent and an understated simplicity.
Hold Your Applause was brewed with US-grown Sonnet hops and a variety of grains, including local corn. It also uses a new English yeast, which strips back the hop and malt notes and puts a greater emphasis on the beer’s yeast character.
