Anheuser-Busch Partners On “Beers Of Joy” Documentary

Robert Daley attempt to pass the Master Cicerone® exam

Anheuser-Busch has joined forces with Producer Jonathan Hack and partnered with Popular Mechanics as well as the award-winning team filmmakers at One-Eleven Entertainment, to craft a love letter to beer told in intertwining stories…

“Beers of Joy” takes a beer pilgrimage from medieval monasteries to historic German villages and all the breweries in between…

Writer-Directors David Swift and Scott Owen’s new film chronicles the journey of four distinctly different characters and how they ultimately converge over a shared enjoyment of the beloved brew.

Tonya Cornett, 10 Barrel Brewing

Tonya Cornett, the award-winning Innovation Brewmaster at 10 Barrel Brewing, embarks on a quest across Germany and Italy to discover the ancient, cutting edge traditions and secrets to brewing a true Berliner Weisse.

Beers of Joy follows beer educator Ryan Daley and Joe Vogelbacher, CEO and Co-founder of Sugar Creek Brewing as they attempt to pass the prestigious Master Cicerone® exam, a beer equivalent to wine’s Master Sommelier, thought to be one of the most difficult tests ever created.

And it tells the story Sean Z. Paxton, a self-taught chef and home brewer and his search to discover the historical roots of culinary and brewing techniques and how they inspire modern day appreciation and pairings. His journey culminates in him undertaking of an actual, 16th-century feast that may prove to be the most difficult thing he’s ever attempted.

“As Directors and beer enthusiasts, it was an incredible experience for us to discover and document the amazing and compelling stories of the characters in ‘Beers of Joy,’” said David Swift, Writer-Director with Scott Owen, and CEO of One-Eleven Entertainment…

“In the film, we are fortunate to have some of the biggest luminaries in the world of beer and brewing from across the globe share their passion, their knowledge and their perspective on this special beverage.

We hope ‘Beers of Joy’ and its characters make you love more, laugh more, and learn more than you ever thought you might about humanity’s connection to beer… which you should always ‘Pour with Vigor!’”

Popular Mechanics has long celebrated America’s growing maker movement and this film highlights the extraordinary innovation and history of craft beer production,” said Cameron Connors, executive director and head of brand strategy at Popular Mechanics

“We developed our own beer in partnership with Anheuser-Busch to celebrate our 115th anniversary and are pleased to continue to bring the joys of craft brewing to beer lovers everywhere.”

The film will be making its theatrical debut at an exclusive showing at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Brooklyn, on March 1st followed by a Q&A (we’re assuming over beer) with the cast and filmmakers afterwards.

“Beers of Joy” is being distributed worldwide by Gravitas Ventures.
