Today has been designated as National American Beer Day and we’ve been struggling to muster convincing enthusiasm. Hey, didn’t we just get through hyping Barrel-Aged Beer Day? And we were one of the maybe eleven people, who bothered to celebrate that one.
And can’t we all admit that we’ve finally reached an ‘official beer day” tipping point? That this whole beer day thing has just gotten stupid?
Can we please just get honest and call these special beer days for what they are, socially-engineered content-driven marketing opportunities….And National American Beer Day were looking at you.
And yes, we share as much of the blame for perpetuating these bogus beer days as anyone…
After all, haven’t we already wasted your time shamelessly promoting questionable ‘beer days’ like National Drink Beer Day, International Beer Day, National Lager Day, International Gruit Day, National Beer Day, and even National Bock Beer Day?
Credible beer new sites like Brewbound or Good Beer Hunting would never stoop so low….People return their calls.
And even after scouring the internet we’re still unable to determine who designated Friday, October 27th as National American Beer Day to begin with.
Why not tomorrow? Why must do we have to celebrate American beer on this specific day?
Maybe one of those ‘national day’ sites had an opening they needed to fill…and thought fuck it, let’s just run with this.
So celebrate National American Beer Day today if you want …It’s as a good a reason to start drinking early as any.
