Summer’s “dog days” have finally arrived but that doesn’t mean that every brewery is just cranking out session IPAs. Many breweries are going BIG this summer and we’ve seven beers in particular that people are buzzing about.
Diving in Head First (Philadelphia, PA) – How can we not cover a beer with a name that was inspired by David Fincher’s classic serial killer film Seven…especially one from a brewery name Evil Genius? Appropriately infused with BLOOD orange and intensely hopped with Simcoe and Mosaic, Evil Genius’ Gwyneth Paltrow’s Head Was in the Box (yep…that’s its name) is a 7% New England-style blood orange IPA that’s shipping this week.
A Heat Wave Crave (Athens, GA) – Terrapin Beer has a popular India Pale Ale that we crave every summer when the temperatures start soaring. The brewery’s first canned offering, and one that has become a permanent addition to their year-round portfolio, Terrapin RecreationAle is a refreshing 4.7% session IPA, pumped to the max on Bravo, Centennial, Zythos, Amarillo and Galaxy hops.
An UltraViolet Three Way (Portland, OR) – The return of UltraViolet Blackberry Sour is cause for celebration at Ecliptic Brewing, and this year they’ve two additional Oregon blackberry variations for you to savor. Syrah Barrel-Aged UltraViolet Blackberry Sour Ale was aged for 9 months in richly seasoned Syrah red wine barrels for 9 months. And Rye Barrel-Aged UltraViolet Blackberry Sour Ale was aged to a 9.5% ABV perfection, in rich rye whiskey barrels.
Making A Strong First Impression (Milford, DE) – Dogfish Head has revamped an 18 year-old stout recipe that’s as historic as it is renowned. Dark, rich, roasty and complex, Dogfish Head Oak-Aged Vanilla World Wide Stout is a MASSIVE 16% ABV Imperial Stout that’s been toned by whole Madagascar vanilla beans and aged to perfection in real 10,000 gallon oak tanks.
Lola Bru’s Brew (Miami, FL) – Lola Bru is a Miami-based artist and a drummer who’s bringing her art to the labels that will grace a special limited release that Wynwood Brewing crafted in her name. Scheduled for an official August 5th release, Wynwood Lola Bru is a 9% ABV Belgian Tripel that was barrel aged and blended with Father Francisco and tart cherries. Yessssssssssssssss!
