5 Weird Beers To Avoid Like The Plague

beer, 5 Weird Beers To Avoid Like The Plague

Has the craft beer industry finally run out ideas? Glitter beer just reeks of desperation and even though these strangely flavored brews might find an audience…We’re not sure we’d want to hang with them.

Hello Kitty Beers

Available currently only in China is a series of beers inspired by the Japanese Hello Kitty character that come in banana, apple, and passionfruit and might as well be Kool-Aid.

Licensed by the Shanghai KT trading company and brewed by Long Chuan in Taiwan, the Hello Kitty series of beers are more fruit juice creations than beer. And at 2.3% ABV plan on chugging three of them if you’re looking for buzz.

The fact that this beer takes its takes lead from the uncomfortably named Fudgie the Whale, a beloved Carvel Ice Cream cake that many of us enjoyed as children, is reason enough why it should never have been made into a beer.

Brewed by for Father’s Day (?), by Captain Lawrence Brewing Company Fudgie The Beer is described as a creamy stout brewed with chocolate crunchies and fudge, which actually sounds tasty if it wasn’t named after an ice cream dessert. They also do a Fudgie Beer Shake which we can’t help but think is a BAD IDEA.

Peeps Candy Beer

For those of you over 21 who aren’t all that versed in the world of Easter candy, Peeps is a gummy marshmallow concoction shaped like little chicklets and bunnies, that recently became a beer.

Brewed last Easter and only available in the Texas area (at least it was contained) The Collective Brewing Project’s Peep This Collab was a sour ale, flavored with Peeps, vanilla, and the butterfly pea flower which lends the beer a purple color similar to the questionable Easter candy.

Roasted Jalapeño Blueberry Porter

And yes we like Jalapeño peppers (the spicier the better) and we’re big fans of fresh blueberries (who isn’t?), but never ever in our porters… please, we’re begging you!

Mamma Mia! Pizza Beer

Few things pair as well with beer as pizza. But that doesn’t mean that steeping a real Margarita Pizza (that’s right, the whole wheat crust, tomato, oregano, basil, garlic and all) into a beer’s mash is ever a good idea.

But don’t tell that to Tom and Athena Seefurth, because they’ve built Mamma Mia! Pizza Beer into an empire. And if weird is what you’re looking for in your beer we suggest that you stick with wine or ecstasy.
