One of craft beer’s biggest events, the Great American Beer Festival returns to Denver this week. Most of the industry is already in town and rocking it.
But the GABF is a beast of an event …And here’s some things you may need to know if you’re heading to Denver…

According to the Guinness Book of World Records there is no other place on earth where a beer fans can find more beers to sample than at the GABF
The GABF’s three days of tasting sessions will offer visitors the opportunity to drink their way across America’s brewing landscape, and they’ll have access to more than 3,500 different beers from over 800 of the nation’s finest breweries.
This year, the GABF has assembled an amazing selection of America’s finest craft beers, all arranged geographically in the Colorado Convention Center’s expansive festival hall. So if you’ve never attended a Great American Beer Festival get ready to have your minds blown.
Just Because You Don’t Have Tickets Doesn’t Mean You Can’t Enjoy The GABF
Th e 2017 GABF (Oct 5th-7th) sold out in just over four hour…so it’s understandable that many of you were left empty-handed.
But the festival itself is only the centerpiece to almost a week of special craft beer events that are taking place all over the city and the majority of them that are open to the public!
We know of beer fans who travel to Denver annually without tickets and still enjoy a first-class GABF experience without ever hitting the signature festival hall.
You Can Still Attend 2017’s “What The Funk!? Invitational
Presented by Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project, The What the Funk Invitational has garnered its own independent reputation for excellence over the years.
This annual celebration of strong and boozy barrel-aged creations and adventuresome sours will feature some of the nation’s most cutting-edge breweries (most also in town for the GABF) and things will definitely be getting wild.
This year’s event takes place at the very cool, Studios at Overland Crossing on Wednesday night, October 4th. And amazingly, unlike the GABF, tickets are still available.
The GABF Is More Than America’s Most Important Beer Festival
The Great American Beer Festival also sponsors one of the nation’s most important beer competitions.
There will be five different three-hour judging sessions taking place during the festival’s three-day run, allowing an international panel of experts to pick the best beers from 98 different style categories.
This year’s competition is expected to see nearly 6,500 beers from over 1,500 breweries all competing for their chance to win the GABF’s coveted gold, silver and bronze medals.
