Sloop Brewing Now Sharing The Smuttynose Brewery

Founded in 2011 by Adam Watson and Justin Taylor and named for the boats that once moved people and cargo up and down the Hudson River, East Fishkill, NY’s Sloop Brewing is entering into an alternating proprietorship with Smuttynose Brewing in Hampton, NH. The alternating proprietorship (read: they’re sharing the brewery) will allow Sloop, the fastest growing regional brewery in the country, to continue its growth despite reaching capacity at their current facility.

“By entering into this alternating proprietorship with Smuttynose, we are able to maintain direct, boots-on-the-ground control over our beer, from ingredients to process to packaging, without sacrificing any of the quality or flavors people have come to expect from our brand” said Sloop’s Head Brewer Justin Taylor. “The facility in Hampton is a state of the art brewery with amazing staff, and we look forward to working closely with the whole team on this new adventure.”

Once one of New Hampshire’s largest and most successful craft breweries, Smuttynose had fallen on hard times and was auctioned off in 2018.  Now under new ownership the refurbished brand has been charting a turnaround with new CEO Brian Walsh, a Boston-area exec who formerly ran Long Trail Brewing joining the operation in 2019.
