Wild Times! Epic Brewing Commits To Sours

, Wild Times! Epic Brewing Commits To SoursEpic Brewing is delving deeper than ever into Sours and Wild Ales. Already one of the largest wood-aged beer producers in the West, they are upping the ante and have huge plans to sour your spring!

On top of the more than 3000 barrel-aging oak casks already in action, they’ve just recently added two additional foeders to their already extensive collection of wood-aging vessels and starting in April plan to release four sour beers in 40 days. So fasten your seat belts, because things are soon going to get wild.

Starting the first week in April and running into the first week in May, Epic will be releasing three new sour blends from their Oak and Orchard Series and the third release of their acclaimed Sour Brainless on Peaches.

So here’s what’s coming and when…

Oak and Orchard Syrah, Release No. 2

This time around the brewery upped the fruit tones and downplayed the funk. Epic started things by loading one of their Napa Valley foeders with their already soured Saison and added blueberry, boysenberry and black currant into the mix until it was practically bursting at the seams, with huge fruit and wine notes. Available starting the first week of April this “fruit-forward variation will be the first out of the gate. (8.5% ABV)

Oak and Orchard Dark Sour with Plum, Release No. 2

The second packaging of Epic’s journey “to the dark side” is finally making its way beyond the brewery’s walls and we’re psyched that it’s coming. Having spent most of it life brooding in retired whiskey barrels before being finished with plum puree this uber-dark sour will be hitting markets around the country the second week of April. (7.5% ABV)

Oak and Orchard Pinot, Release No. 2

Available at the end of April, this extremely limited soured Saison was fruited with blueberry, boysenberry, cranberry strawberry, plum to mimic Pinot Noir and aged in oak for months until it reached the peak of puckering perfection. (8.5% ABV)

Sour Brainless on Peaches, Release No. 3

Available in the beginning of May, Sour Brainless on Peaches smells intoxicatingly peachy, but delivers a brutally tart punch! Said to be Epic’s sourest version yet, this acclaimed wild ale still retains notes of citrus and a dose of barnyard funk. (7.5% ABV)
