Untappd’s Most Popular Beers And Breweries For 2017

When it comes to beer check-in and rating’s apps, Untappd is king. They recently released their Top 10 most checked in beers of 2017 and here’s what people were drinking last year….

So what can we take away (if anything) from last year’s rankings?

Untappd is primarily the domain of craft beer FANS…At the risk of belaboring the obvious, casual beer fans wouldn’t bother, and most people checking in a Miller Lite are in most cases being ironic.

This top 10 ranking is a reflection of a beer’s popularity and its availability. All of the breweries represented are bigger operations…brewers that have been around for a while and are widely distributed.

IPA’s continue to own the lion’s share of the craft beer consumer’s attention…With the exception Yuengling Traditional Lager (which is borderline craft in our eyes anyway), New Belgium’s Fat Tire (an amber ale), and Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout, it was IPAs that not surprisingly dominated Untappd’s Top-10 last year. And we get that according to the brewery, Stone Ripper is what they call a ‘San Diego Pale Ale’…but still.

Untapped users ‘Buy American.’ Excluding BrewDog, which began as a Scottish enterprise and expanded into the states last year, nine of last year’s Top-10 beers were produced by breweries that are headquartered in the states.untappd, Untappd’s Most Popular Beers And Breweries For 2017

Untappd also released the Top 10 Most Checked-in Breweries of 2017 last week. And Founders, Stone, Sierra Nevada, Boston Beer, Dogfish Head, New Belgium, Bells, BrewDog, Trillium, and Firestone Walker all make their ranking in that order… All the breweries listed were craft beer majors, with the exception of Trillium, an inclusion that definitely got our attention.
