“The Queen Of Soul” Aretha Franklin Dies

, “The Queen Of Soul” Aretha Franklin DiesThis one’s tough…the “Queen of Soul” has passed and words like legendary, gifted and iconic ring hollow…

An artist who had delivered more than 20 US number ones over a career spanning seven decades, Franklin had been diagnosed with cancer in 2010 and she announced last year she was retiring from music.

She gave her final performance last November at a gala in New York for the Elton John Aids Foundation.

This from a statement by her family…

“In one of the darkest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our heart.

“We have lost the matriarch and rock of our family. The love she had for her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins knew no bounds.”

Born in Memphis to a gospel singer/pianist and a celebrated Baptist preacher, Franklin’s powerful voice and soulful presence eventually earned her the kind of stardom and acclaim that few musical artists have achieved.

And the R-E-S-P-E-C-T of the world….
