July’s nearly over and things are only accelerating in the craft beer biz. But no worries, Rumor Mill remains on the case, keeping you plugged in into all the beer news and lifestyle that matters. Plus we’ve an all-important update on what we’ve been drinking lately and you don’t want to miss that!

No Beer For You! (Pyongyang, NK) – North Korea’s second-ever international beer celebration was unexpectedly cancelled last week and we expect that someone has to be bummed about that it was – but not us.

The Taedonggang Beer Festival which only debuted last year was seen as an opportunity to showcase North Korea’s largely secreted beer industry to a world that we can’t imagine cares.

World Domination! – In addition to having successfully launched ICBMs capable of reaching the US, North Korean scientists are also claiming to have invented a new hangover-free drink called Koryo, that’s made with ginseng root, scorched rice and good old totalitarian know how.

Words To Drink By (Frederick, MD) – “For decades, liquor commissions across the country repeatedly violated the right of freedom of expression for breweries.” – Jim Caruso CEO, Flying Dog Brewing

Boston Beer And Constellation Brands Downgraded (Washington, DC) – Global investment banking firm Goldman Sachs has downgraded Boston Beer, home to Sam Adams and Constellation Brands, home to Ballast Point, citing sluggish beer sales and shifts in demographic tastes.

Goldman Sachs points to two concerning trends – that young drinkers aren’t consuming as much alcohol as previous generations did (see legalized pot) – and that millennials are currently trading beer for wine and spirits.

What We’ve Been Drinking Lately (Sligo, Ireland) – Last night we hit up something we received during our recent visit to The White Hag an award-winning brewery with a considerable following in Ireland. The Púca Dry Hopped Lemon Sour W/ Berry Hibiscus & Ginger is another brilliant fruit-forward variation on their 3.5% ABV refresher, and we’d love to see it available in the states.
