Rumor Mill – The “Beer Church” Phenomenon, John Lennon, Heineken’s Brassivoire And More!

, Rumor Mill – The “Beer Church” Phenomenon, John Lennon, Heineken’s Brassivoire And More!Yikes, April’s almost over (how did that happen?)…and clearly nothing is slowing down anytime soon. But no worries, Rumor Mill is always on the case, keeping you plugged in into all the beer news and lifestyle that matters. Plus we’ve an all-important update on what we’ve been drinking lately and you don’t want to miss that!

The Growing Beer Church Phenomenon (USA) – We don’t what it says about society in general, but have noticed that an increasing number of craft breweries around the country are opening in buildings that once housed churches – and we probably shouldn’t ask if craft beer is becoming more popular than organized religion, so we won’t.

The Pabst Cathedral (Milwaukee, WI) – Well it’s not actually not a cathedral, but it once was a German Methodist Church of considerable stature back in 1874, that’s now home to Pabst’s new micro-brewery in Milwaukee. And even in its new context it remains an architectural masterpiece and beer tourism destination to note -so hallelujah!

Michigan Beer Church (USA) – (New Buffalo, MI) – Southwest Michigan is home to the latest addition to the growing “beer church” trend and it we can’t help but applaud its name. Located just east of Chicago over the Indiana border, Beer Church Brewing is reportedly housed in 156-year-old former church, crowned with a steeple and a crooked cross. And it probably shouldn’t surprise anyone that one of their first beers was named Crooked Cross Cream Ale.

Words To Drink By (New York, NY) – “Reality leaves a lot to the imagination.” – John Lennon

Heineken’s Ivory Coast Play (Côte d’Ivoire, Africa) – Dutch beer giant Heineken is making an ambitious play to get in for Africa’s valuable Ivorian beer market. In partnership with distribution specialist CFAO, the world’s second largest beer company has reportedly launched a state-of-the-art $160 million brewery on the outskirts of Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire’s economic capital.

Heineken’s New Brewery, the exotically named “Brassivoire,” has capacity to produce 160 million liters of beer per year and is strategically positioned to take on the existing Ivory Coast market leader Groupe Castel, a French company that currently enjoys a virtual monopoly in the region., Rumor Mill – The “Beer Church” Phenomenon, John Lennon, Heineken’s Brassivoire And More!

What We’ve Been Drinking Lately (Washington, DC) – Last night we tapped something we recently received from Redhook Brewing  that’s a modern take on a classic that the brewery initially crafted in 1984. Redhook Big Ballard Imperial IPA is an 8.6% ABV India Pale Ale with an aggressive hop body and a well-rounded finish.
