Twisted Ales Craft Brewing

After only one year in business Richmond, Virginia-based Twisted Ales Craft Brewing has announced that they are closing and exploring a sale.

Founded by husband and wife Jason and Debbie Price, Twisted Ales was very much a family business. Debbie’s brother’s is also an owner, and their son’s Kyle and Ryan were also reportedly part of the brewery’s operations

And although a brewery closing after only a year in business, sound ominous, the reality is less so…

According to the Richmond Times Dispatch Price moved to the city 14 years ago “to take a job in information technology, which he used to fund the brewery — a small, minimally decorated space with rows of laminated pennies on the bar and a warehouse-type feel.”

But Price’s IT organization was eventually sold, and as part of his severance package he was offered a job with the company’s new owner in Raleigh…an opportunity that he explained was “too good to pass up.”

Like so many American cities craft beer remains growth industry in Richmond. There are now more than 30 craft breweries around the city including majors like Stone Brewing and awarding winning ‘hotties’ like Hardywood and The Veil.

This is the second brewery to shutter its doors in Virginia’s capital so far this year….

7 Hills Brewing in Richmond’s uber-trendy Shockoe Bottom neighborhood closed in January. But unlike Twisted Ales that establishment which opened in 2015 was also a full-service restaurant.
