Raise A Glass – Rock Pioneer Gregg Allman Dies At 69

, Raise A Glass – Rock Pioneer Gregg Allman Dies At 69Time inevitably takes its toll – as does the rock n roll lifestyle and years on the road.

First Bowie, then Prince, Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell just recently in Detroit…And now, rock icon, Gregg Allman.

Along with his older brother Duane, singer, musician and songwriter, Gregg Allman cofounded The Allman Brothers, then a six member unit that fused country blues with San Francisco-style  improvisational instincts, to create the first great Southern rock band.

Just as Curt Cobain’s Nirvana, gave birth to the grunge sound and inspire generations of bands, so did Gregg Allman and the Allman brothers…

And along with The Grateful Dead, both he and the Allman Brothers can be validly credited with pioneering musicians like Dave Matthews and decades of bands from Phish to The Black Crowes.

According to the Rolling Stone, In 2007 Allman was diagnosed with Hepatitis C back in 2007, which he attributed to a dirty tattoo needle, but then again, a rock n’ roll life lived hard on the road can leave scars – and he passed this weekend surrounded by family at his home in Savanah Georgia, from an undisclosed liver ailment.

Rest In peace Gregg… and thank you for your music …you’ll be missed.
