The American Craft Beer Rumor Mil – April 15, 2015

Yikes it’s mid-April already. So much has happened already this year and it doesn’t appear that things are going to be slowing down any time soon. But no worries – Rumor Mill is always on the case, keeping you plugged in to all the craft beer news that matters. Plus we’ve an all-important update on what we’ve been drinking lately and you absolutely don’t want to miss that.

, The American Craft Beer Rumor Mil – April 15, 2015Former Harpoon CEO Invests In and Partners with Abita (Boston, MA) – Former Harpoon CEO Rich Doyle has formed a new company to provide craft breweries with the funding necessary to support future growth. And his first acquisition is Louisiana’s Abita Brewing Company! In addition to supplying funding, Enjoy Beer LLC “will help manage those parts of the business that are not as much fun as brewing: logistics, marketing strategy, data collection, and training sales people on new software tools,” according to the Boston Globe.

Coachella Now Serving Up Music & Serious Beer (Indio, CA) – The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival has more than 160 artists playing six major stages over three days for two consecutive weekends. But the big news is the craft beers that they’re now serving at this legendary music fest. It used to be that the only variety you could sample there was the different strains of weed, wafting from the pulsating crowds – but all that’s changed. Coachella’s Craft Beer Barn that debuted last year was such a hit that they doubled its size this year. This year’s “Barn” features 90 different breweries with 250 different beers.

So we’re not surprised to learn that the Durham Bulls Athletic Park will now have an on-site brewery. The aptly named Bull Durham Beer Company expects to begin serving their freshly brewed beers at Durham Bulls ballgames in early May.

Massive World of Beer to Open in NYC (New York, NY) – The Florida-based World of Beer Chain, with 70 locations in 20 states, will open its first store in New York City in late May or early June. Located in Chelsea on the corner of West 26th Street, the 5,000-square-foot beer emporium with feature 50 taps and 500 beers – according to DNAinfo.

What We’ve Been Drinking Lately (Washington, DC) – We’d like to thank all the breweries who ship us beer from time to time. It’s always great to sample the brews that we write about and helps to give us have a better feel for what’s happening out there. Last night we hit up a new summer seasonal that we just received from SweetWater Brewing. Brewed as part of their Dank Tank Series, SweetWater 420 Double IPA is an 8% ABV “Imperial”, brewed to celebrate the SweetWater 420 Fest that they throw every year in Atlanta. This year’s festival headliners include Snoop Dodd, 311 and Cage the Elephant – and the limited edition IPA that they sent us doesn’t suck either.
