THE AMERICAN CRAFT BEER – QUICK HITS

We blame the industry for this… It used to be that when we wrapped up our Weekend Picks on Friday, we could coast through the weekend. There was little need to check in for updates – things were pretty much done. But clearly all that’s changed.

So here’s some of what’s happened in the world of craft beer while you were off enjoying yourselves.

, THE AMERICAN CRAFT BEER – QUICK HITSBarrel & Bushel and American Craft Beer Present a Fall Tasting Tonight (Tysons Corner, VA) –  Barrel & Bushel is one of the region’s most acclaimed beer-centric restaurants and they’ll be showcasing their newest fall beer selection, along with seasonal bites specially prepared to complement them – and they’ve invited us to join them! The evening’s fall food offerings are being curated by Chef Dan Dienemann, a rising star in the cuisine biz- and a really good guy as well. ACB’s Founder and Editor-In-Chief, Tom Bobak will also be on hand to answer questions and comment on all seven of the beers being served – and he only gets funnier the more he drinks. Tickets are $25 at the door and if you want to be sure you’ll get in, pre-registration is encouraged. So join us at Barrel & Bushel tonight (October, 5th , 5:30 – 7:30) for an epic evening of food and drink.

CBA Partners With Cisco Brewing (Portland, OR / Nantucket, MA) – In yet another sign of how fast our industry is changing, The Craft Brew Alliance (CBA) announced last week that they have formed a strategic partnership with Cisco Brewers, the first and only craft brewery on Nantucket Island in Massachusetts. This new “partnership” , THE AMERICAN CRAFT BEER – QUICK HITSwill afford Cisco access to CBA’s sales and distribution network and the use of their New Hampshire-based brewery as well.

Words To Drink By (Milton, DE) – “There’s beer geeks and there’s beer snobs, and I’m a card-carrying, dyed-in-the-wool member of the beer geek community.”

Grand, Grand, Grand Openings (West Asheville, NC) – New Belgium will be opening its new East Coast brewery in stages next year. In February they will begin pouring their beer he Liquid Center tasting room – a 6000 to 7000 foot venue with indoor and outdoor seating. The company announced last Wednesday that they will start offering public tours in March and hold their official grand opening and 25th Anniversary on August 27th. Got it?

, THE AMERICAN CRAFT BEER – QUICK HITSACB On The Town (Washington, DC) — We’d like to thank, Diageo’s Stephen Costallos, Guinness goddess, Amber Duckett, and the brewery’s own Domhnall Marnell, for having us down to Provision No. 14 last Thursday, to celebrate the brewery’s first IPA. Part of their Brewers Project Series, Guinness Nitro IPA is 5.8% nitro-infused India Pale Ale that’s brewed using Admiral, Cascade, Celeia, Challenger and Topaz hops. The beer which enjoyed until late in the night comes in special 12oz cans that contain the famed Guinness nitro widget. Upon opening the can, this amazingly effective addition infuses small nitrogen gas bubbles throughout the beer creating the signature ‘creaminess that Guinness has become known for. Thanks again are due the whole Guinness crew for inviting us to be part of the celebration – it was a night of great industry talk, new friends and awesome beer.
