THE AMERICAN CRAFT BEER – QUICK HITS

We blame the industry for this… It used to be that when we wrapped up our Weekend Picks on Friday, we could coast through the weekend. But clearly all that’s changed.

So here’s some of what’s happened in the world of craft beer while you were off enjoying yourself.

Shocker! Mitch Steele to Exit Stone Brewing (Escondido, CA) – Stone’s brewmaster announced last Friday that he would be leaving the organization that’s been his home for a decade on June 30th. Evidently Steele has been offered as yet unnamed opportunity “of a lifetime” and something that, as he explains “if I didn’t give it a shot, I’d regret it for the rest of my life.”

Words To Drink By (Ridgewood, NJ) – “”I think it was Tolkien who said…Not all who wander are lost”

, THE AMERICAN CRAFT BEER – QUICK HITSNinkasi Celebrates A Decade In The Biz (Eugene, OR) – One of our favorite breweries is celebrating 10 years of brewing, and would couldn’t be happier for them. Setting out in 2006, with a single mission to “perpetuate better living” Ninkasi hasgrown from a two-man team (Jamie Floyd and Nikos Ridge) to become the 36th largest craft brewery in the United States. They continue to operate entirely from its facilities in Eugene, Oregon and currently employ more than 100 employees. And, oh yeah, they also happen to brew brilliant beer. Congrats everyone!

Is The Craft Beer Market Becoming Oversaturated? (USA) – Craft beer sales this year have risen at less than half the rate they did a year ago. And with more craft breweries than ever before, we might be suffering from own success. But Motley Fool suggests that things aren’t as dire as those numbers might suggest in Craft Beer Isn’t Dying and it’s a worthy read.

Russian River’s New Diggs (Windsor, CA) – After years in the hunt, Russian River’s Vinnie and Natalie Cilurzo have finally locked in on a new brewery property in Windsor, California. Scheduled to open in 2018, the new 15-acre property will house a production brewery with the capacity to brew up to 50,000 barrels, a state-of-the-art tasting room and the necessary gift shop. Future plans also include, guided and self-guided tours, and a larger brewpub with lots of outside seating!
