The ACB Travel Guide – Pricey American Craft Beer Cities

, The ACB Travel Guide – Pricey American Craft Beer CitiesThe online travel site GoEuro recently calculated the cost of buying a beer in cities around the world and we had some fun with it recently in our “ACB Travel Guide – The Price of Beer Abroad.” But since many of you won’t be traveling overseas this summer – but will be enjoying beer in many of America’s great cities – we thought you might need a little economic heads-up as well.

So here’s what GoEuro says are the five most expensive American cities to drink beer in.

1 – New York

Well that’s a shocker! Everything’s more expensive in NYC. The average price for a brewski in the Big Apple is $5.20 according to Go Euro. Keep in mind that this pricing is based on the average of buying a beer in a grocery store ($1.44) and in a bar ($8.97) – so there’s that. If your “drinking / travel” budget is a consideration, we suggest you avoid Manhattan like the plague, and head into the outer boroughs for that cold one. Our friends at the Bronx Brewery are always a good time.

2 – Miami

Miami is one hot city and its temperatures aren’t the only thing soaring. Known for its wonderful people watching and its beautiful tropical vistas, this exotic locale is also home to the second most expensive beer prices in the nation.Go Euro lists the average price of a beer in Miami at $5.13. At retail, it’s $1.29, but in a bar, it’s as expensive as New York at $8.97. And don’t forget visit Wynwood Brewing in Miami’s Art District while you’re there.

You might leave your heart in San Francisco, but you’ll also be leaving serious money on the table if you’re drinking beer while you’re there. The average here is a robust $3.97 – a combination of a market beer at $1.46 and a bar beer at $6.48. But be sure to drop in on Anchor Brewing when you’re in the “City by the Bay.” You also need to hit up 21st Amendment before you leave.

4 – Boston

Boston loves its beer – but love can be expensive in this town. The average price of a beer in “the HUB” is $3.72. That’s the average when you combine a store price of $1.46 with a bar price of $5.98. Drop in on Boston Beer Company, the maker of Sam Adams while you’re there, and be sure to partake in their brewery tour – it’s one of the best in the country!

5 – Chicago

Rounding out the Top-5 is the “Windy City,” home to big craft beer breweries like Goose Island and brilliant progressives like Half Acre. The price for a beer here is $3.56 – that’s an average of $1.37 in a grocery store and $5.76 in a bar.
