Busted! Singapore Shuts Down University Brewing Ring

Singapore, Busted! Singapore Shuts Down University Brewing Ring

Now highly collectable

Three students at Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University (NTU) have been forced to stop brewing their hugely popular (and totally unlicensed) branded beer on campus leading to riots in the streets!

Okay, nobody rioted, but plenty of students were bummed that their ‘go-to-brew, would no longer be available….And it wasn’t a beer ring either, just young beer nerds whose passion for brewing beer took off almost overnight at the university.

Here’s the deal…

According to a report by the Straits Times, the ambitious undergrads, Rahul Immandira, Heetesh Alwani and Abilash Subbaraman, had been brewing a Farmhouse Saison in the university’s Binjai Hall since last September.

And their beer brand, Binjai Brew, had already sold more than 400 bottles on campus, attracting the attention of authorities, and leading to what is now being called the great Singapore ‘Binjai Bust.’

According to Singapore Customs regulations, individuals are allowed to brew beers and liquors at home for personal use.

But similar to laws in the US, if you’re selling beer in that country, you need to apply for a Singapore manufacturing license or risk being shut down which is exactly what unfortunately happened.

What the three students have planned for the future remains unclear. But if brewing professionally isn’t one possible career path, their guidance counselors at Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University need to be fired.
