Beer Mixers – New Belgium Invites Beer Fans to Craft Their Own Blends

Generally brewers craft beers to present as intended, a finished product that can be offered as this kind of ‘coffee porter’ for instance, or that kind of IPA.

But over the past decade breweries like Firestone Walker started getting serious about their barrel-aged blends as did New Belgium Brewing with their wild ale blends like La Foile. And now New Belgium is offering a variety pack that invites the consumer to get creative and to craft their own beer blends.

 New Belgium’s Blend Like A Brewer Variety Pack offers six of New Belgium’s more interesting and exotic styles (Fat Tire Belgian White, 1554, Citradelic Tangerine IPA, Abbey, Trippel, and the new Cellar Blender) along with six recipes from their brewing team as to ways you can blend them to create something entirely different.

For example, one recipe reportedly devised by New Belgium’s Geoff Wenzel suggests that you blend equal parts Abbey Belgian Dubbel with 1554 Black Lager, to craft something they call Monk’s Pajamas.

Eric Salazar, a senior veteran from New Belgium’s wood-aging program, invites you to blend two-thirds 1554 and one-third Cellar Blender, (a dark, wood-aged sour ale only available in this 12-pack) to create L’Argento, an entirely new drinking experience.

According to New Belgium’s Jesse Claeys, the Blend Like A Brewer Variety Pack “was born rather organically in our tasting room.” With co-workers who ended their days with a shift beer (or two) and who would occasionally blend different beers just for fun and to explore different directions.
