North to Alaska (Anchorage, Alaska) – The 24th annual Great Alaska Beer & Barleywine Festival is returning to the William A. Egan Civic & Convention Center this weekend and when it comes to cold weather and big beer drinking, there’s not a better event anywhere! This year’s two-day (Jan 19th – 20th ) three session beerganza will feature over 300 Barleywines, Strong Ales and Winter Seasonals from more than 70 of the region’s most exciting brewers. There will also be non-stop music and more food than you’d ever want to consume, so you don’t want to miss this amazing beer celebration.
TV Time & Streaming – The latest from Netflix’s understated Marvel superhero series, (which already includes titles like Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders) recently debuted and it’s a whole lot of stupid fun! Based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, The Punisher stars Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle as an ex-military vigilante known throughout New York City as “the Punisher” who’s bent on exacting revenge from a cloudy international cabal who may (or may not) be responsible for killing his family.
On The Big Screen – With Academy Award season looming closer maybe it’s time to check some of the best picture contenders…and we think it’s safe to say that I, Tonya is a contender. Directed by Craig Gillespie, this sometime mock-documentary bio-flick, follows the life of figure skater Tonya Harding and her connection to the 1994 attack on her rival Nancy Kerrigan. Margot Robbie stars as the trailer-trash heroine (or not) and Allison Janney as her abusive mother in a role that’s another Oscar contender!
Columbus Calling! (Columbus, OH) – The Alaskan Brewing Company is one of the sponsors of this weekend’s 8th annual Columbus Winter Beerfest downtown at the Convention Center and it promises to be too much fun. This year’s two-evening throwdown (Feb 19th-20th) will feature more than 350 beers from over 130 of the region’s best breweries as well as artisan foods and non-stop live music, so what’s not to like?
THE ACB WEEKEND BEER PICK
With things continuing to wax wintery we’ll be hitting up something seasonal from Schlafly Beer this weekend. Pumped to the max with chocolate and cinnamon flavors, Schlafly Mexican-Style Chocolate Stout is the 6.2% ABV decadent yet drinkable homage the traditional Mexican hot chocolate drink with a little buzz added.
