Hey it’s the Weekend…It’s 2017, there’s a new president and you’re ready for some fun. Well good, because we’ve some ideas for you. From the nation’s coolest beer events to movies, music and cutting edge TV – we’ve got your back big-time. Plus we’ve another weekend beer pick for you as well, because we know you’ll be drinking.
Get Warmer This Weekend (Asheville, NC) – This Saturday, January 21st, one of the East Coast premier beer destinations will be celebrating the season (and the beers brewed for that season) when the 10th Anniversary Asheville Winter Warmer Beer Festival kicks off downtown at the US Cellular Center. This year’s afternoon beerganza will feature more than 40 of the region’s best breweries – and given that this is Asheville you now that the lineup and beers offered will be killer. And 2017’s guest brewery is none other than Tulsa, Oklahoma’s celebrated Prairie Artisan Ales – so that’s worth the price of admission alone. On The Big Screen – This is time of year when Hollywood studios drop movies that showed some early signs of award potential but not quite the heft to survive the more heavily promoted Academy Award contenders and The Founder which opens this weekend is one of those films. ACB fav Michael Keaton stars as Ray Kroc, the founder of McDonald’s, who turned two-brother fast food into a global empire. Unfortunately the “ham-burglar” is noticeably absent in this weekend’s critically-acclaimed debut.
North to Alaska (Anchorage, Alaska) – Frigid climes are made for drinking Barleywines so our northern friends might want to check out the Great Alaska Beer & Barleywine Festival which is returning to the William A. Egan Civic & Convention Center this weekend. This year’s two-day (Jan 20th – 21st) three session throwdown will feature over 300 Barleywines, Strong Ales and Winter Seasonals from more than 75 of the region’s most exciting brewers. TV Time – David E Kelly the creator of popular television dramas like, Chicago Hope, The Practice, Ally McBeal, Boston Public and Boston Legal, returns to the small screen (this time on Amazon) with Goliath, a dark and brooding legal drama that goes some surprising places. Billy Bob Thornton stars as Billy McBride a disgraced lawyer, (now an alcoholic and ambulance chaser), who gets his chance at redemption in a legal battle with the firm which expelled him.
THE ACB WEEKEND BEER PICK
With things feeling wintery we’ll be hitting up something we’ve been looking forward to from Schlafly Beer this weekend. Brimming with chocolate and cinnamon flavors, Schlafly Mexican-Style Chocolate Stout is the brewery’s 6.2% ABV decadent “take” on the traditional Mexican hot chocolate with a little buzz added.
