We blame the industry for this… It used to be that when we wrapped up our Weekend Picks on Friday, we could coast through the weekend. But clearly all that’s changed. So here’s some of what’s happened in the world of craft beer while you were off enjoying yourself.
New Zealand Brewery Crowdfunds $2 Million In Two Days (Wellington, NZ) – In a bid to crowdfund the necessary funding that would allow them to build a new brewery and taproom ParrotDog reached their audacious goal of $2 million in less than 48 hours. They also reportedly crashed the PledgeMe crowdfunding website but that’s another story altogether!
Glory Days (Detroit, MI) – There was a time when Detroit was known not just for their cars but also for their heritage beers. And now Stroh’s reportedly has a new “Michigan-only” Bohemian-Style Pilsner” release that’s based on an original recipe that’s been artfully reimagined by Pabst Master Brewer Greg Deuhs.
Words To Drink By (Milton, DE) – “They’ll buy a once-independent brewery — not naming names — and suddenly its IPA’s kegs are on the street for half as much as a true indie craft beer.”
Sam Calagione – On Big Beer’s strategy
Wanna Run Away To The Circus? (Petaluma, CA) – Then you need to ENTER for a chance to win a trip for two to the
Lagunitas Beer Circus, courtesy of Lagunitas Brewing. Winners will receive airfare, lodging, a VIP tour and dinner at the Lagunitas Taproom & Beer Sanctuary on Friday night, and tickets to the Petaluma Beer Circus on Saturday.
Dream Brewing Gig Alert! (Washington, DC) – One of our favorite hometown breweries, DC Brau, is looking for two reliable, experienced and motivated brewers to join their production team – and openings like these don’t come around often. Submit your cover letter and resume via email to [email protected] if you’re interested. And know that materials must be received no later than Friday, September 9th.
