Hey it’s three-day Presidents’ Day Weekend and you’re ready for some fun. Well good, because we’ve got all kinds of ideas for you. From the nation’s coolest beer festivals, movies and music to cutting edge TV – we’ve got your back big-time. Plus we’ve a Valentine’s Day beer pick for you too, because we know you’ll be drinking
Zwickelmania Returns This Weekend (Oregon) – Zwickelmania, a state-wide celebration that’s been described as a “backstage pass to Oregon’s best breweries” returns to the Pacific Northwest for what has now become two weekends of fun.
Portland Area Breweries will be kicking off Zwickelmania, this Saturday February 18th from 11am to 4pm. And additional breweries throughout the rest of the state will be participating in Zwickelmania celebrations the following Saturday, February 25th. Last year, more than 42,500 people toured some 120 Oregon breweries and now with it taking place over two weekend period, it should be even bigger this year. More Information at Oregon Craft Beer.
On The Big Screen – The good news is that this weekend’s big movie opening stars Matt Damon who’s always a fun watch. The bad news is that he’s starring in a ridiculous looking action/adventure/monster movie the result of some misguided Hollywood / China co-production pact. The Great Wall looks and smells like a disaster, but its trailers did make us laugh, just not in a good way.
The Weekend Streaming Guide – This being a long President’s Day weekend, we suggest that you consider some presidential viewing and there’s all kinds of directions you can go. There’s presidential romance (The American President, Dave). There’s presidential intrigue (All the President’s Men, Thirteen Days, The Contender). There is presidential comedy (Dr. Strangelove, Mars Attacks, Wag the Dog). And then there’s our favorite sub-genre, presidential horror (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter).
Beer Drinking In Oz (Victoria, Australia) – We’ve a considerable following in “the land down under” and that continent will be hosting a huge beer event this Saturday, February 18th, when the fifth annual Great Australian Beer Festival returns to the Geelong Racecourse in Victoria. This year’s beerganza (their biggest so far) will feature more than 200 regional and international beers, live music on three separate auditorium level stages and a huge array artisan food offerings in a beautiful terraced garden setting.
THE ACB WEEKEND BEER PICK
This weekend we’ll be hitting up something we just received from Elysian Brewing that’s part of their Manic IPA Series. Elysian Savant IPA is an enormous 8% ABV India Pale Ale that is pumped out of its mind on New Zealand’s Nelson Sauvin hops.
