5 Great “Summer Ready” Craft Beers

Summer High And Dry (Paso Robles, CA) – Firestone Walker has just released the latest from their Leo v. Ursus Chronology and it’s a double IPA which they describe as having been “improbably brewed for summertime sipping.” Light in color and sporting a balanced bitterness, Leo V. Ursus: Adversus is a big (8.2%), bold beer that combines the aggression of North American hops with the tranquility of traditional pilsner malts.

Navel Gazing (Portland, OR) – Cascade Brewing recently released a barrel-aged blended sour ale that we’ll definitely be chasing down. Cascade Crazy Navel is a 7.6% ABV mix of sour wheat and blonde ales that were aged with fresh wine zest in oak wine barrels for 14 months. Yesssssssssssssss!

Truth Be Told (Frederick, MD) – Flying Dog just released a new fruit-forward imperial ale as part of their new Blenders Variety Pack. Flying Dog True Blood is a big 7.8% ABV India Pale Ale that was brewed indulgently with blood oranges and finished off with natural blood orange flavors.

Tall Tail (Atlanta, GA) – SweetWater Brewing has a new Catch & Release seasonal with an exotic medley of hops, hand-picked by SweetWater’s brewmaster Mark Medlin. Lush, tropical and intensely aromatic, SweetWater TripleTail Tropical IPA is a sessionable 5.5% ABV India Pale Ale with rich orange notes.

Summertime Drifter (Portland, OR) – Widmer Brothers has returned a “blast from the past” for the summer. Widmer Brothers Drifter Pale is a 5.6% ABV summertime seasonal that we’re happy to see back in the marketplace.
