beer, 5 More Amazing International Sour BeersThe sour beer revolution is much more than an American trend … craft beer-lovers around the world are now onboard and brewers are doing incredible things. And here are 5 more International Sour Ales that will ensure that you update your passport.

 The Kernel London Sour

Any visit to London is hardly complete without a trip to The Kernel, one of the city’s most inventive street breweries. Their roster of beers is ever-changing (one of the reasons they’re so much fun) but they always keep a sour offering on hand.

The Kernel’s London Sour takes its lead from the lower alcohol Berliner Weisse style with different fruit additions, such as raspberries or lemon and lime. Their current variation (which sampled last time we were in town) is a 5% sour variation fermented with Damson plums. Brilliant!

8 Wired Sour Poppy

New Zealand’s 8 Wired Brewing has an impressive array of brilliantly matured sour ales many of them offered year-round.

Sour Poppy is an unapologetically tart 7% ABV Sour Red Ale that takes their original Tall Poppy Red Ale and introduces live cultures into the mix. Just killer.

Mikkeller’s Berliner Weisse Series

Denmark’s Mikkeller does Berliner Weisse series that’s pretty spectacular and as with The Kernel’s London Sour the fruit they use is ever changing.

Hallo Ich Bin Berliner Weisse – Raspberry, Mikkeller’s 3.7% fruit infused Berliner Weisse, is pretty hard to beat, but they do offer apricot, passion fruit, peach and cherry variations.

Wild Beer Squashed Grapebeer, 5 More Amazing International Sour Beers

The UK’s Wild Beer Company has built their almost cultish reputation, and they incorporate number of different techniques in crafting their sours, from blending and ageing, to sour-mashing and inoculating. But whatever approach that they take the outcome is always dependable – complex and refreshing sours that dazzle.

The end product of wild yeasts and bacteria and Somerset grapes fresh from the press and extensive red wine Foudre conditioning, Wild Beer Squashed Grape is a 5% raw and rustic Sour Saison that totally captures the terroir of the region. Mind-blowing!
